We are looking for Kurdish Sorani interpreters in Middlesbrough to support the growing need of professional interpretation services across healthcare, refugee support services, local authorities and community organisations. Kurdish-speaking interpreters are regularly required throughout Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside area to help individuals communicate during important medical appointments and public service interactions.

About the Role
As a Kurdish-Sorani Interpreter in Middlesbrough, you will provide interpretation support for Kurdish-speaking individuals during healthcare consultations, housing appointments and social care discussions across a range of professional sectors.
Kurdish interpreters are increasingly required across healthcare organisations including South Tees Hospitals Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool Trust. Additional assignments are also available through NHS South Tees Clinical Commissioning Group and local authority services supporting individuals and families across Middlesbrough and surrounding areas.
Assignments may commonly involve:
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Appointments
- GP and Hospital Consultations
- Refugee and Resettlement Support Meetings
- Child Protection and Safeguarding Discussions
- Housing and Social Care Appointments
- Welfare, Benefits and Community Support Reviews

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Kurdish Interpreter, you will help Kurdish-speaking individuals and professionals communicate effectively during a wide range of sensitive appointments and discussions.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting Kurdish (Sorani) -speaking patients during healthcare and welfare appointments
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Handling confidential information professionally.
- Interpreting accurately and professionally within a sensitive environment
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Kurdish (Sorani) and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, refugee supp. and public sector interpretation is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
