We are continuously recruiting Cantonese interpreters in Sheffield to support clients across the NHS, local authorities and private organisations. Due to ongoing demand, there is a consistent need for qualified Cantonese-speaking interpreters. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

About the Role

As a Cantonese Interpreter in Sheffield you will be responsible for communication between Cantonese speaking service users and professionals across healthcare, public services, legal sectors and community organisations in real-time environments.

Interpreting support is regularly required across major NHS organisations in Sheffield, including 

• Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 
• Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust 
• Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. 

There is also ongoing demand for Cantonese interpreters within Sheffield City Council and wider public sector services which includes education, housing support, adult social care, welfare services and community outreach programmes. As Sheffield continues to support diverse multilingual communities, professional interpreters play a vital role in ensuring equal access to essential services.

Cantonese interpreters are also frequently required within legal and immigration-related sectors across South Yorkshire. This includes support for solicitors, courts, asylum services, refugee support organisations and human rights casework.

British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters are also encouraged to apply, including both registered and trainee professionals. 

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)

As a Cantonese Interpreter, your responsibilities will include:

• Provide accurate interpretation across healthcare, legal and educational sectors 
• Deliver services through face-to-face, video and telephone appointments 
• Maintaining strict confidentiality and impartiality at all times
• Supporting clients and professionals in sensitive or complex situations
• Ensuring clear communication while respecting cultural nuances and differences

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

• Fluency in Cantonese and English
• Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
• Enhanced DBS certificate
• Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
• Valid proof of identity
• Previous experience in healthcare, legal or educational interpreting is an advantage

Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
