About the Role
As a Farsi Interpreter in Sheffield, you will be responsible for bridging the communication gap between Farsi-speaking individuals and service providers across multiple sectors.
A significant proportion of interpreting demand comes from NHS and mental health services across Sheffield, including organisations such as Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust. Farsi interpreters are often required for GP appointments, hospital consultations, mental health assessments, maternity services, counselling sessions and community healthcare visits.
There is also strong ongoing demand within asylum and refugee support services across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. Many Farsi-speaking individuals accessing these services require interpretation during
- Immigration Interviews
- Housing Appointments
- Welfare Assessments
- Legal Consultations
As a result, Farsi interpreters frequently work alongside local authorities, support agencies and community organisations assisting refugee and migrant communities. Legal interpreting assignments are also commonly available within courts, tribunals, police interviews and family law sectors throughout the region.
We also encourage applications from British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, including both Registered Sign Language Interpreters (RSLIs) and Trainee Sign Language Interpreters (TSLIs).
What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Farsi Interpreter…You will play an important role in helping individuals and organisations communicate clearly in multiple sectors. Your responsibilities may include:
- Provide accurate interpretation across healthcare, legal and educational sectors
- Delivering interpreting services through face-to-face, telephone and video appointments
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and impartiality at all times
- Supporting clients and professionals in sensitive or complex situations
- Ensuring clear communication while respecting cultural nuances and differences
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Farsi and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, legal or educational interpreting is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
