We are continuously recruiting Mandarin interpreters in Middlesbrough to support the increasing demand of professional language services across healthcare, higher education, business support and public sector organisations.

About the Role
As a Mandarin Interpreter in Middlesbrough, you will help the Mandarin-speaking community across a variety of professional and specialist environments including hospitals, universities, GP practices and local authority services. Mandarin interpreters are frequently required across healthcare organisations including South Tees Hospitals Foundation Trust, North Tees and Hartlepool Trust.
Due to the presence of international students and overseas professionals within the region, Mandarin interpreters are also regularly involved in education support programs, wellbeing services and administrative discussions related to universities and local institutions across Middlesbrough.
Assignments may commonly involve:
- Specialist Hospital and Consultant Appointments
- University and Student Wellbeing Meetings
- GP and Community Healthcare Consultations
- Visa, Documentation and Administrative Support Discussions
- Housing and Accommodation Support Meetings
- Education, Welfare and Public Service Appointments

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Mandarin Interpreter, you will support Mandarin-speaking individuals and professionals to communicate properly during a wide range of professional, educational and healthcare-related appointments. Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting Mandarin-speaking individuals during healthcare, education and welfare appointments
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Assisting professionals and service users during formal consultations and discussions
- Handling confidential information professionally
- Interpreting accurately and professionally within a sensitive environment
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Mandarin and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, education or public sector interpretation is an advantage
