We are recruiting Romanian interpreters in Middlesbrough to support an increasing demand of interpretation services across hospitals, GP surgeries, mental health services, local councils and community support organisations. Romanian-speaking interpreters are regularly needed throughout Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside area to help individuals access important healthcare and public services confidently.

About the Role
As a Romanian Interpreter in Middlesbrough, you will provide interpretation services for Romanian-speaking individuals attending healthcare appointments, social care meetings, welfare consultations and legal discussions across a range of public sector environments.
Romanian interpreters are consistently required across healthcare organisations including South Tees Hospitals Trust and NHS Hartlepool and Stockton Clinical Commissioning Group. Additional assignments are also available through North Tees and Hartlepool Foundation and Riverside Medical Practice…particularly within maternity services, outpatient clinics and community healthcare sector.
Assignments may commonly involve:
- Hospital and Specialist Healthcare Appointments
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Consultations
- Maternity and Community Midwife Appointments
- Child Protection and Safeguarding Meetings
- Benefits, Welfare and Employment Discussions
- Housing Support and Social Care Reviews
Romanian interpreters regularly work alongside Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council services, housing teams and community organisations supporting residents across Teesside.

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Romanian Interpreter, you will help Romanian-speaking individuals and professionals during a wide range of healthcare and public sector appointments. Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting Romanian-speaking patients during NHS and GP appointments
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Handling confidential information professionally.
- Interpreting accurately and professionally within a sensitive environment
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Romanian and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare and public sector interpretation is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
