
We are seeking Slovak interpreters in Middlesbrough to bridge the communication gap across healthcare appointments, housing support and local authority departments throughout the Teesside region. Slovak-speaking interpreters are regularly needed to help individuals and families communicate clearly during practical day-to-day appointments and essential public service interactions. .

About the Role
As a Slovak Interpreter in Middlesbrough, you will support Slovak-speaking individuals attending GP appointments, council meetings, school discussions, employment consultations and welfare-related appointments across a variety of professional environments.
Slovak interpreters are commonly required by healthcare providers including South Tees Hospitals Foundation and Riverside Medical Practice particularly for community healthcare appointments and patient support services. Additional opportunities are also available through Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and North Tees and Hartlepool Trust where interpretation support is often needed for housing, benefits and social support services.
Assignments may commonly involve:
- Employment and Workplace Support Discussions
- GP and Community Healthcare Appointments
- Housing and Tenancy Assistance Meetings
- School Admission and Parent Meetings
- Welfare, Benefits and Financial Support Reviews
- Council and Community Service Appointments

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Slovak Interpreter, you will help Slovak-speaking individuals and professionals communicate during a wide range of appointments and discussions. Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting Slovak-speaking individuals during healthcare, education & employment-related appointments
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Assisting professionals and service users during formal consultations and discussions
- Handling confidential information professionally
- Interpreting accurately and professionally within a sensitive environment
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Slovak and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, housing or public sector interpretation is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
