We are continuously recruiting Pashto interpreters in Newcastle to support an increasing demand across refugee services, healthcare organisations, legal environments and local authority departments. Pashto-speaking interpreters are regularly required throughout Newcastle and the wider North Eastern region to support individuals accessing essential public and community services.

About the Role
As a Pashto Interpreter in Newcastle, you will support Pashto-speaking individuals during important appointments and discussions across healthcare, immigration and public service sectors. A large proportion of interpreting demand comes from refugee and resettlement services across Newcastle and surrounding areas.
Interpreting opportunities are also regularly available through healthcare providers including Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust and NHS South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group…particularly within mental health services, maternity care and community healthcare programmes.
Assignments may commonly include:
- Asylum and Immigration Appointments
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Sessions
- Housing and Resettlement Meetings
- GP and Hospital Consultations
- Safeguarding and Family Support Discussions
Pashto interpreters frequently work alongside refugee support organisations, Newcastle City Council services and community outreach programmes supporting newly arrived individuals and vulnerable families across the North East region. There is also ongoing demand within the legal sector including solicitor consultations, tribunal hearings and police-related appointments.

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Pashto Interpreter, you will help individuals and professionals communicate properly during important appointments and support sessions. Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting the Pashto community during healthcare, legal procedures and refugee support
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality throughout every assignment
- Helping professionals and service users communicate clearly and accurately
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Pashto and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, immigration or public sector interpretation is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
