About the Role
As a Slovak Interpreter in Newcastle, you will help the Slovak-speaking community attending appointments, meetings and public service discussions across a variety of professional sectors.
A significant amount of interpreting demand comes from education, family support and community welfare services throughout Newcastle. Slovak interpreters are often required during school meetings, safeguarding discussions and local authority appointments. Interpreting opportunities are also regularly available through healthcare organisations including Northumbria Healthcare Foundation and NHS North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group…particularly within GP services & maternity care..
Assignments may commonly include:
- School Attendance and Parent Meetings
- Child and Family Support Reviews
- Housing and Tenancy Appointments
- GP and Community Healthcare Visits
- Benefits and Employment Support Discussions
Slovak interpreters frequently support Newcastle City Council services and housing providers assisting Eastern European families and individuals living across Newcastle and surrounding areas.

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Slovak Interpreter, you will help people understand important information during appointments and public service interactions. Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting the Slovak community during healthcare, school and housing appointments
- Providing interpreting services across face-to-face, telephone and video assignments
- Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality throughout every assignment
- Helping professionals and service users communicate clearly and accurately
- Understanding the cultural differences and making sure everything is interpreted correctly
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Slovak and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, housing or public sector interpretation is an advantage
Please note: This is a self-employed position. You must manage your own HMRC registration and National Insurance.
