Kurdish-speaking interpreters are regularly required throughout Newcastle and the wider North East region to assist individuals accessing essential public and community services.

About the Role
As a Kurdish (Sorani) Interpreter in Newcastle, you will help Kurdish-speaking individuals who are attending healthcare appointments, legal meetings and refugee support sessions across the city and surrounding areas.
Kurdish (Sorani) interpreters are frequently required across major healthcare organisations including Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and NHS North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group. Additional interpreting opportunities are also available through NHS South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group particularly within mental health, rehabilitation and community wellbeing services.
Assignments commonly involve supporting individuals during:
- Immigration and Asylum Appointments
- Mental Health and Trauma Support Sessions
- Housing and Welfare Meetings
- Tribunal and Solicitor Consultations
- Safeguarding and Family Support Reviews
Kurdish (Sorani) interpreters frequently assist refugee support organisations, local authority departments and public sector teams supporting newly arrived individuals and vulnerable communities across Newcastle and the wider North East region. There is also ongoing demand within Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, Northumberland County Council and South Tyneside Council services.

What you’ll be doing (Scope of Work)
As a Kurdish (Sorani) Interpreter, you will support communication between Kurdish-speaking clients and service providers across multiple sectors. Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing interpretation services across healthcare, legal, immigration and social care services
- Helping Kurdish-speaking individuals during resettlement meetings and healthcare appointments
- Keeping all information private and remaining impartial at all times
- Supporting both clients and professionals during sensitive conversations and appointments
- Making sure communication is accurate while understanding cultural and language differences
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Fluency in Kurdish (Sorani) and English
- Relevant interpreting qualifications such as DPSI, CI or NRPSI (preferred)
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Two professional references and an up-to-date CV
- Valid proof of identity
- Previous experience in healthcare, housing, legal or public sector interpreting is an advantage
